WASHINGTON, DC – Jason Snead, executive director of the Honest Elections Project, issued the following statement in response to President-Elect Joe Biden’s statement yesterday that the “integrity of our elections remain intact.”
“President-elect Biden should not confuse his win in the Electoral College as a sign that all is well with American elections. Millions of voters harbor serious doubts about the security and credibility of our electoral system. We have witnessed dysfunction, incompetence, and yes, instances of fraud. We saw unprecedented efforts by partisans to reshape voting rules for political gain, and countless allegations of widespread election crimes that have been virtually impossible to dispel. Faith in our electoral institutions is anything but intact.
“Platitudes are not enough to regain voters’ trust. We need to improve ballot security and access through state-led election reforms that bring commonsense safeguards to absentee ballots, improved voter identification laws, and process changes that ensure clear and prompt results. We all agree it should be easy to vote and hard to cheat, but sadly we’re still a good ways from that.”
