WASHINGTON, DC – Jason Snead, executive director of the Honest Elections Project, issued the following statement following the completion of the by-hand audit of presidential votes ordered by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger:
“I applaud the state of Georgia for completing a full manual recount of the roughly 5 million presidential votes cast in the state. Post-election audits help to identify irregularities as well as dispel rumors. By all accounts, there were no signs of widespread problems that could have affected key races in the state. The audit did uncover minor discrepancies and several alarming errors, including the discovery in three counties of a combined 5,600 votes that initially went uncounted. Mistakes like these are unacceptable. Fortunately, these errors were caught—a sign the audit worked as intended.”
