“Guaranteeing the integrity of our elections should be the top priority for all public officials. Unfortunately, Harris County seems more interested in covering up its record of election mismanagement. The Texas Forensic Audit Division has documented serious and unacceptable violations of state and federal records laws and election procedures, and offered resources and assistance to improve the upcoming elections. Harris County’s attacks on the audit process are nothing more than a politically motivated attempt to distract from its own failures.
“This episode shows why post-election audits and process reviews are vital. Errors should be found and corrected, not swept under the rug. I applaud Texas for providing the resources necessary to keep elections secure and free from fraud and incompetence.”
